Hopeful

Dec ,. 27th the bug that is sweeping Britain bit me ,and continued biting for about 3 weeks , then I seemed to recover . I had a few days feeling fine then I developed a nasty cold or perhaps a recycled version of the bug . Once again I was knocked for six but I think I,m on the mend again , sniffly but nothing to complain about so I shall be blogging again . I lost enthsiasm for sharing my day while not feeling well .
I have changed doing patchwork for sewing with felt . It,s a lovely fabric to work with and I now have a good selection of colours . I read of girls picking up wool jumpers from charity shops to felt and use . I have looked in charity shops for ages and I have not seen one 100% wool jumper . I cannot find naive patterns using felt either so will have to twiddle and convert patchwork patterns .
I still have two patchwork quilts in the final stages to finish . One only needs the binding sewing down , the other is a medallion quilt , I,m on the final border .
The sewing machine came back from being serviced but still does not do the decorative sts, satisfactory , I,m not going to pursue the matter , straight stitching will do for me .
I,d love opinions please , do sewing machines have a time of being in good working order or are they like cars start to be a problem after a time . I discussed this with Silver sewer , we both thought a well used sewing machine would give up . I have had my present machine 8 or 9 years .

I've had my machine for 15 years now! Just a simple Janome with various stitches. I have it serviced, and it goes on going!

Ive got the recurring lurgy too. I never get a cold, but I got a stinker that started Christmas Eve and has only just gone, then yesterday I felt like I had been hit by a ton of bricks again!! Ive had my sewing machine since I was 16!! so 35 years! I luckily found a great chap at the end of my road who will service it for me for the price of a small bottle of whisky! xxxx

My Brother is 28 years old and is better than my 3year old machine, I think some machines are born with a "attitude" and never really do what they are supposed too.Or it could be me but I believe it's the machine, it hates me. I try not to take it personally. LOL

I had the repairman tell me that the plastic gears in almost all machines built after mid 1960s or so wear out. My Singer 2010 is starting to grind and he said after checking it out that the gears needed replacing.

Instead, I found a vintage Singer 401 (because I need a zigzag) at a garage sale. I was recently checking out Bernina 820 (on craigslist) but the negative comments were overwheming. I think all the manufacturers put out lemons and some are just too complicated.

I really do appreciate the feedback , it,s reassuring to know machines do last . Mine is a Brother Innovis NX 200 not a top of the range but it has been very reliable

I've had mine since 1999 and it's still going strong. I think some brands just aren't meant to do the work us quilters do. Hope yours works now for a very long time. Hugs

I've had my Husqvarna sewing machine since I was 16 too so that is 40 years and it is still brilliant. It is not used as much since I starting working fulltime though.
